How Many Days Do You Need for the Perfect First Safari?
One of the most popular questions I get asked almost every day. And you know, my answer catches many people off guard.
Because the perfect safari isn't 7, 10, or even 14 days long.
To be perfectly honest, after 4-5 days, most people… get tired.
On the first day, you squeal with delight at the sight of your very first zebra. On the second day, you're still shouting: "A lion!!!" On the third day, you calmly say: "Oh look... another lion." And by the fourth day, your eyes are already scanning for something completely new and unusual, while you occasionally get distracted by sorting through photos on your phone to post on social media.
And that is absolutely normal.
My favorite duration is 2 to 4 days.
This is plenty of time to:
- see a massive number of animals;
- catch the real thrill of the wild search;
- avoid getting exhausted by long drives;
- keep that wonderful feeling of "I want more!".
That’s exactly why most of my itineraries are built this way.
Of course, there are exceptions. If you are a wildlife photographer, dream of seeing the Great Migration at a specific point, or want to fully immerse yourself in savanna life - then you can absolutely go for a week or longer.
But if this is your first safari ever, don't chase the number of days. It’s much better to spend three perfect days than to spend seven days dreaming about the beach and a good cappuccino.
And Africa… it’s not going anywhere. It will just give you a perfect reason to return here again one day. 💚
